Dr. Reddick here…..
How many times have you started your New Year’s Resolution only to give up by the end of January or before. There are a couple of ways to attain that goal.
1. Choose a Realistic, Specific Goal—Don’t choose to ‘lose weight, or ‘eat better’, choose to ‘lose 10 lbs’ or ‘limit soda to 1 can a day.’
2. Pick only one resolution. Then you can focus on that resolution only.
3. Don’t wait until New Year’s Eve. Planning and research will increase your success dramatically.
4. Start with small steps. Doing too much in the beginning will be overwhelming. If you resolve to run a marathon, start going for a short jog 2 times a week. If you want to eat healthier, start by replacing one or two junk food items with a healthier choice.
5. Avoid repeating past failures. Don’t make the same failing resolution year after year. Change it a little or try something different.
6. Remember that any change is progress.
7. Don’t let small stumbles bring you down. Your path to success will not be straight. Expect to have some difficult days, but don’t waiver from your goal.
8. Get support. Join a support group or tell your friends and family what your goal is so they can help you reach it.
Good luck with the Resolution.
Until next time….here’s to your complete wellness.
